The US Department of Defense awarded the first contract under the Security Support Initiative of Ukraine with a budget planned for this year in the total amount of USD 300 million. It was released by AeroVironment from Simi Valley, California, which will provide RQ-20 Puma AE reconnaissance drones for Ukraine for 19.7 million dollars.
Under the contract, the Californian company AeroVironment will be responsible not for the creation, but delivery to Ukraine of its previously developed small, manually launched observation drones called RQ-20 Puma AE. This will be accompanied by “reconnaissance, surveillance and target detection kits, an initial spare parts package, contractor logistics support and training for new equipment for Ukraine.” The work is to be completed by May 30, and information on the number of drones has not been released.
