Alienware shows “Concept Nyx”, a game server for your home that will allow you to play on up to 4 devices at the same time

Ahead of the start of CES 2022, Alienware introduces Concept Nyx, a server to stream games locally and without the need to access cloud servers such as Microsoft xCloud, Google Stadia or Nvidia GeForce Now.

Concept Nyx is a prototype that would allow up to 4 games to be transmitted simultaneously. The idea is that several players who live together can have the possibility of transmitting different games to any device they choose, be it a Smart TV, laptop, tablet or a desktop computer. Instead of streaming the games through an online server anywhere in the world, the players access this server using a Wi-Fi networkIn this way, they avoid problems related to latency and bandwidth.

In the demo presented by Alienware, this server looks like a large cabinet with the company’s logo on it. As it is a prototype, the design is not final and it is unknown what the final product would look like. On the other hand, Concept Nyx was used by a company representative who played Cyberpunk 2077. The game could be successfully streamed between a Smart TV, laptop and desktop PC.

Then another employee started playing Rocket League at Concept Nyx and both played simultaneously on a split screen TV. It should be mentioned that these were two different game instances and on two smaller screens. Although this shows the power of the server, it does not represent the ideal gaming experience for any of these titles, but it is something that can be improved in the future.

Alienware did not give details on the components

The company assures that it has reached stream up to four games simultaneously. However, he did not elaborate on Concept Nyx’s performance. The resolutions it will support and the frames per second it will deliver are unknown. No details were given on what components the demo prototype used or whether it can be connected to a monitor and used independently. What is clear is that you will need a very powerful router that can support simultaneous transmissions without problems.

Being a prototype, Alienware did not give information about a possible launch of Concept Nyx. Dell’s Chief Technology Officer Glen Robson explained that the company will “further develop Concept Nyx” as it wants to use it to benefit other future products.

How about Alienware’s Concept Nyx? Would you like to use such a server?
