Alphacool Eisbaer Aurora HPE 360 in the test – expandable AiO with new copper radiator

The question of what material the radiator was made of comes up again and again under the articles on AiO water coolers. And the answer is always: aluminum. Today I can finally give the answer that is secretly desired, because Alphacool combines parts from the custom loop segment with the simplicity of an AiO. What makes the radiator special in addition to the copper advantage can be read in the following article:

packaging and scope of delivery

A box in portrait format protects the complete water cooler on the way to us, which was printed all over in black. The pump block is proudly presented on the front, the back then shows the fan and part of the radiator. Apart from the basic information about the compatible sockets, there is no further listing of the specifications or features on the outside.

A shell made of dense cardboard, which encloses three sides, offers additional protection inside the box. In addition, each part is individually bagged.

The accessories are quite lavish and consist of many small parts. In addition to the assembly material for the various sockets, a manual ARGB controller, 3 fan splitters and a tube of “Subzero” thermal paste and the adapter for the proprietary RGB connection are also included.

Having the necessary brackets and screws in separate bags with labels is a sensible idea with this large number of small parts in order to avoid chaos and a lot of searching.

assembly and installation

For my AM4 socket used here, the backplate from the mainboard is used again, but you still have to handle a few small parts. The graphic below (of another version of the cooler) shows it quite well:

The two brackets pushed into the side of the pump block were quite stiff for me, pushing the teeth into each other was only possible with great force. After everything is prepared, only the four screws have to be tightened crosswise. There is also a small point of criticism in the form of the cable tie, which fits tightly to the pump cable. A sure instinct and small pliers or scissors are required here, otherwise the cable will quickly be cut through.

With the enclosed tube of thermal paste, it is also noticeable that it is less filled than I would have expected based on the size. Compared to well-known thermal compounds such as the MX-4, the paste itself is also significantly tougher. The amount is about enough for double use if you are a little generous with the amount.
