AMD Announces Ryzen 5000C Zen3 Processor for Chromebooks

AMD today announced the Ryzen 5000C line of mobile processors for Chromebooks. This is the company’s second generation of Chromebook-specific processors after the Ryzen 3000C based on the original Zen microarchitecture. The 5000C series chips are based on Zen 3, therefore presenting a huge leap in performance over the 3000C seriesalong with a full suite of the latest Chrome OS-specific connectivity, display technology, and security and management features.

The Ryzen 5000C comes with Vega graphics

According to AMD, the new line of processors for Chromebooks is the first to offer an octa-core CPU for this type of device. At the top of the range, we have the Ryzen 7 5825 C, which has 16 threads, a maximum frequency of 4.5 GHz (2.0 GHz base clock) and 20 MB cache. This model also has eight GPU cores with Vega architecture, launched in 2017 by AMD and predecessor of the current generation of RDNA, and 15W TDP.

The other processors in the series are:

Processor Cores/Threads Base – Maximum GPU cores cache
Ryzen 5625C 12/6 2,3 GHz – 4,3 GHz 7 19 MB
Ryzen 3 5425C 4/8 2,7 GHz – 4,1 GHz 6 10 MB
Ryzen 3 5125C 2/4 3,0 GHz – 3,0 GHz 3 9MB

All Ryzen 5000C processors feature 15W TDP, support for Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2. AMD reported that this new series is 67% faster and offers 85% better graphics performance compared to the previous generation (AMD Ryzen 3000 C).

HP and Acer already have products with the Ryzen 5000 C

Acer and HP were the first Chromebook manufacturers to announce devices with Ryzen 5000C processors. HP’s Elite c645 G2 will be the first to hit stores, with a release scheduled for next month. Acer’s Spin 514 will launch in the next quarter.
