Like other brands, AMD also joined the fight against the coronavirus, and announced a significant donation of CPUs and GPUs equivalent to a total of $ 15 million to various research centers, to increase computing capacity and accelerate the search for a possible cure.
AMD CEO Lisa Su mentioned “AMD today announces its high-performance computing fund against COVID-19 to provide research institutions with computing resources to accelerate medical research for COVID-19 and other diseases. This fund will include an initial donation of $ 15 million in high-performance systems based on AMD EPYC processors and AMD Radeon Instinct GPUs to key research institutions. To facilitate their implementation and accelerate the useful impact of these donations, we are working with our HPC system vendor partners to provide ready-to-install HPC nodes. Interested institutions should contact AMD through COVID-19HPC@amd.com to send their proposals to access these nodes ”.
It will be interesting to see how quickly a possible cure is reached with the increasing contributions not only from companies, but also from the community itself, in projects such as Folding @ Home that has already passed 2.4 Exaflops.
