AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), the opponent of Nvidia DLSS arrives on June 22 | Computex 2021

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) will debut on June 22. Technology that similarly to Nvidia DLSS aims to guarantee better performance while preserving image quality, is now ready to debut and as rumors of the eve it will also work on Nvidia’s GPUs (even GTX 1000 Pascal’s), not just AMD’s.

With the support of over 10 development studios and game engines already this year, as well as a total of 100 hardware components between CPU and GPU, FidelityFX Super Resolution aims to improve performance up to 2.5 times compared to native ones. Let’s take a practical example: Playing Godfall in 4K with Epic presets and active ray tracing using an RX 6800 XT, according to AMD, you get an average frame rate of 49 fps.

By activating FSR, you will have four presets available which offer a different balance between the level of detail and the final performance: Ultra Quality preserves graphic detail to the maximum while increasing performance a 78 fps (+59%); setting Quality slightly reduces detail in favor of performance that touches i 99 fps (+102%); Balanced should balance the two, bringing performance to 124 fps (+153%); Performancefinally, it should trade the graphic detail in favor of maximum performance, bringing them to 150 fps (+206%).

The interesting thing is that the technology (as well as open source) is agnostic, so it works on non-Radeon GPUs too. Also in Godfall, for example, with a GTX 1060 from Nvidia you can get a 41% performance improvement (going from about 27 to 38 fps) at 1440p resolution with Epic detail by activating the FSR in Quality mode.
