AMD Updates AGESA to Fix RAM Problems

Keep in mind that when AMD releases AGESA updates, they are not something that users can download and install as such, but rather a microcode that AMD provides to the manufacturers of boards so that they can incorporate it into a new one. BIOS update. In other words, the way in which users can benefit from these updates is to wait for the manufacturer of our board to implement them in their BIOS, and then we can proceed to update the BIOS.

AMD AGESA solves problems and incorporates improvements

The microcode in question is called AGESA ComboAM4 1.0.0.5, and contains the following improvements and fixes:

  • Improves POST time on Micron DDR4-3200 MHz memory chips.
  • Fixes latency detection errors on Micron DDR4-3200 MHz memory chips.
  • Fixes a virtual memory error on Realtek Ethernet chips on motherboards.
  • Improves the stability of the PCI-Express bus.
  • Fixes a bug in PCI-Express rails found when using Ryzen 3 Pro 2100 GE processors.
  • Minor performance and overall stability improvements have been made.
  • This micro code also includes all the improvements from the previous version 1.0.0.4.

Should you install this update?

As a general rule, we always recommend updating the motherboard BIOS when you buy a new PC, so that you have the latest improvements and security updates available at that time. However, since you know how to update the BIOS there are certain dangers at times, so normally we will not update it again until the update is worth it because we have problems, because they fix vulnerabilities or because we need to improve the compatibility of the board by having installed new hardware.

Therefore, this is a recommended update for those users who use 3200 MHz Micron brand RAM memory, because they are the chips that receive the improvements in it, but also for users who have motherboards whose network card is Realtek, which in general are almost all and, therefore, this is one of those updates that is worth installing.

Since AMD has just announced this new AGESA update, we will have to wait at least a couple of weeks for motherboard manufacturers to implement it in the firmware and make it available to users.

Therefore, it would be a good idea to check the website of the manufacturer of your motherboard from time to time and look for your model to see if there is a new update of the BIOS of the same, and when it is available proceed to update the BIOS of your motherboard to apply these improvements. Anyway, if you're not having any problems it's also not something you should be overly concerned about.
