AMD Would Not Support DDR5 Memory on Desktop PCs Until 2022

While many rumors indicated that AMD would support DDR5 on desktop PCs next year, it appears that finally we will have to wait for 2022 to see these memories running on a red platform.

The leak comes from Gamers Nexus, who said he received an internal roadmap from AMD showing his intentions to incorporate support for DDR5 in 2022. This platform would also support USB 4.0 and maintain support for PCI-E 4.0. While not 100% confirmed, Gamers Nexus says this product could be based on Zen 4.

These Zen 4 processors won't be the only ones to support DDR5 in 2022. There will also be Zen 3+ APUs with DDR5 support, and laptop chips that will also support this new standard.

Although the report does not mention it, this existence of Zen 3+ could indicate that there would be an intermediate generation between Zen 3 and Zen 4 in 2021. This year we will see Zen 3 and if Zen 4 will arrive in 2022, it would not be surprising for AMD to launch a intermediate to fill the market in 2021. In any case, the latter is personal speculation, so they should not take it as something accurate.

Since for now there is nothing officially confirmed by AMD, we recommend taking this information with tweezers, and waiting for official news.

What do you think about this news? Did you expect to move to DDR5 next year or is this news not affecting you?
