Apple, Macs with ARM processors will arrive in 2021. Both laptop and desktop

"Several" Mac models with ARM architecture-based processors are arriving between 2021 and 2022, according to the latest Ming-Chi Kuo predictions. TF Securities analyst says they will come both desktop systems and laptops.

The idea of portable with mobile SoC it is certainly not new: not only are there Windows-based ones already on the market, but Apple has been talking about it for some time. On the other hand, Apple has managed to develop very powerful mobile processors – we refer to the A * X range found in the most prestigious iPads, which are often called "more powerful than most Windows laptops around" (phrase also used with the latest iPad Pro, for example).

ARM chips are more energy efficient, therefore they open the doors to ever thinner designs, ever higher autonomies and no need to resort to active heat dissipation, with the fans. The mobile chips would also allow Apple to significantly reduce production costs: it is estimated that compared to Intel or AMD x86 processors the savings are quantifiable around 40-60%.

The combination of desktop systems and ARM chips, on the other hand, is more curious and unusual – mainly because the advantages that these chips provide, as we have seen above, are substantially irrelevant for a desktop system, which has no space or autonomy problems. It is true that Apple has a particular passion for subtlety and minimalism, so we can imagine an even more compact iMac or Mac Mini. Clear that for the Mac Pro, Intel Xeon CPUs continue to seem a more suitable solution. That said, we can't even rule out that Apple is working on completely new form factors.
