Orca AI in partnership with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha has equipped one of the giant ships with its advanced security system. This means that artificial intelligence on container ships in wider use is closer than we think.
The latest efforts by Orca AI have made artificial intelligence on container ships nothing new
Established in 2018, the Israeli company Orca AI brings together maritime technology experts who work together to improve the safety of sea-going ships. To this end, they combine these current safety systems with sensors to improve the navigation and safety of ships crossing congested waterways. Final goal? Provide seagoing ships with AI systems so that actions like the blockade of the Suez Canal are never repeated.

The systems developed by Orca AI are to first improve security and, secondly, to improve shipping. This is also how we come to the point where artificial intelligence on container ships may become the standard in the future. Of course, while the current trials on one of them, which have been going on since August 30, will end positively. However, if it does, it will bring us closer to creating a global network of shipping, guided, organized and monitored by artificial intelligence.

According to Orca AI, the system it has developed will not replace human operators, but will provide them with better visibility at sea in unfavorable or foggy weather. In addition, artificial intelligence will automatically identify dangers even at night, thanks to its thermal imaging cameras, complementing the optical ones.
