ASRock X299, a new BIOS allows you to install 2 TB of memory

ASRock has released a new BIOS for its latest motherboards X299 which enables support for 256 GB RDIMM memory modules. The firmware update allows the motherboards to support one maximum memory capacity up to 2 TB, a clear increase over the 256 GB supported by other manufacturers.

The arrival of the BIOS did not seem so imminent, although in recent weeks the official overclocker of the company Nick Shih had demonstrated the existence of this BIOS by showing a screenshot in which it showed 1 TB of memory running on an X299 motherboard.

Nick Shih mounted eight 128 GB LRDIMM modules on an X299 Taichi CLX motherboard alongside a Core i9-7900X. Basically the RAM worked at a maximum frequency of 2933 MHz (CL 21-21-21-47) with a voltage of 1.2V, but the overclocker managed to bring them to 3471.8 MHz (CL 20-24-24-56 ).

ASRock has made the latest BIOS available for new motherboards X299 Taichi CLX, Creator and Steel Legend. At the moment the new functions are available for the seventh and ninth generation Core X CPUs, but the intention is to extend this possibility to the latest 10th generation Core X CPUs Cascade Lake-X.

Below you can see the results of the AIDA64 cache and memory benchmarks.

The milestone achieved by ASRock is truly remarkable and makes the company’s motherboards also the only ones to offer support for RDIMM memories on X299.
