ASUS ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha the motherboard for ThreadRipper 3990X

ASUS ROG adds to the catalog ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha, a top of the range motherboard designed around the very powerful processor AMD Ryzen ThreadRipper 3990X announced at CES 2020, the first consumer solution to offer a CPU a 64 cores with SMT support and a total of 128 logical threads.

The latest ASUS motherboard is an evolution of the ROG Zenith II Extreme presented in January, taking up practically all its technical characteristics except for the power section. The new version indeed it is equipped with a 16-phase power supply license plate Infineon (TDA21490) capable of delivering up to 90A20 amps more than the base model ROG Zenith II Extreme (70A with Infineon TDA21472 components).

With these specifications, the ASUS ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha can also offer room for overclocking, a practice that will not be easy to manage with a processor with a 280W TDP such as the Ryzen ThreadRipper 3990X. As anticipated in the opening, the other technical characteristics are no different from the basic model; among these we point out the most important ones:

  • AMD TRX40 chipset
  • 8 DIMM DDR4 / MAX 256GB (up to 4733 MHz) with Quad-Channel support
  • Multi-GPU 3-way AMD CrossFireX and NVDIA SLI support
  • PCI-E 4.0 support (latest generation NVMe M.2 SSD)
  • WiFi AX Dual-Band / LAN Aquantia AQC-107 10G
  • ROG SupremeFX 8-Channel High Definition CODEC S1220 sound card
  • Up to 21 USB ports with USB 3.2 gen 2 and USB-C support

On board, of course, there are also all the ASUS proprietary technologies typical of ROG products, from the AURA RGB LED backlight, to the various utilities for overclocking and the management and optimization of the components. ASUS at the moment has not provided details on the price of the ASUS ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha, however, remember that the ASUS ROG Zenith II Extreme model is currently on sale in Italy starting from about 700 euros.
