We had to wait a really long time for Google to finally decide to introduce the functionality that has been in Firefox for a long time. It is about the ability to mute sounds directly on the tab, without having to open the right-click menu.
We cannot speak of an introduction yet, but a service Chrome Story has already noticed a new flag in Chrome Canary called “Tab Mute UI Control”. The functionality of the new feature is basically the same as in Firefox. when a sound is played in an open tab, a special icon appears on the tab to inform you about it. After clicking it, we can mute the playback. Such an icon already appears in Google Chrome, but only for information purposes that a sound is played in a given tab. To mute it, open the right-click menu and select the appropriate command. It’s quite a pain, especially when we want to get it done quickly.
For now, Google is testing this feature, and if you wish, you can test it yourself by downloading Chrome Canary, then opening chrome: // flags and searching for “Tab audio muting UI control” / “Tab audio muting interface control”. After setting the flag to “on” you can enjoy a new useful option. When will it go to the stable version of the browser? We hope to be as soon as possible.
