B450 and X470 users will be able to use Zen 3, under certain conditions

After the great controversy that there was in the community when AMD announced that future Zen 3-based Ryzen would only be compatible with 500 Series motherboards, the company decided to go back with this decision, and give "Beta" support to these processors on motherboards with B450 and X470 chipset, under certain conditions.

These are the points to keep in mind that AMD mentions for B450 and X470 users who want to upgrade to Zen 3:

  1. We will develop and provide our partners with a code to support "Zen 3" based processors in select beta BIOSes for AMD B450 and X470 motherboards.
  2. These optional BIOS updates will disable support for many AMD Ryzen desktop processor models to free up the necessary space on the ROM.
  3. These select beta BIOSes will enable a one-way upgrade possibility for "Zen 3" processors, which will arrive later this year. You will not be able to revert to an older BIOS version.
  4. To reduce the potential for confusion, we intend to offer BIOS downloads only to verified buyers of 400 Series motherboards who have purchased a new processor with the "Zen 3" architecture. This will help us ensure that users have a bootable processor on hand before updating the BIOS, minimizing the risk that the user will be unable to boot.
  5. The release times and availability of BIOS updates will be variable, and may not immediately coincide with the availability of the first “Zen 3” based processors.
  6. This will be the last update AMD can enable for 400 Series motherboards to add support for new processors. Post-Zen 3 releases will require a newer motherboard.
  7. AMD continues to recommend that buyers choose a 500 Series motherboard for the best performance and best features from the new CPUs.

Basically, what AMD says is that not all motherboards will support Zen 3, and that BIOSes for motherboards that do support them will not be publicly available (at least on official sites), but will only be released to users. that they buy a processor based on this new architecture. In addition, in models that do not support BIOS update without processor, users will also have to have a previous processor to update their BIOS to the compatible with Zen 3, since AMD does not give us the BIOS until we have the Zen 3 processor, but To update the BIOS we will also have to have another previous processor, making it impossible to sell the old CPU until we have the new CPU and perform the update.

It will be interesting to see how many motherboards these BIOS receive and in what period of time since the launch of Zen 3. At least it is good news for those who are willing to fulfill all these points mentioned by AMD, even if they are not optimal.

What do you think about these AMD conditions to use Zen 3 in B450 and X470? Do they seem correct?
