Canon is forced to manufacture “pirate” ink cartridges due to lack of semiconductors for the authenticity chip

A Twitter user posted yesterday that Canon is facing a huge shortage of toner cartridges for printers, which forces users to avoid the warnings on their printers, to use third-party cartridges or their own but without an authenticity chip.

Canon is showing how to avoid mistakes by using toner cartridges from other brands

Semiconductor shortages are already affecting printers and to put it simply, this is not a surprise as various PC components such as graphics cards, processors and more have experienced shortages over the past year. In this way Canon is manufacturing cartridges without this security system, although it is noteworthy that the company tells its customers how to use the toners once they are recognized as false, although as expected, this also opens the doors to the use of toners that have been refilled or from third parties.

Thanks to the lack of semiconductors, Canon apparently produces toner cartridges without “piracy protection” and sends emails to customers with instructions on how to avoid error messages from using these cartridges…

Canon Germany says:

“Impact of the shortage of semiconductors in the consumables of Canon multifunction equipment.

We value you as regular customers and users of Canon products.

Due to the current global shortage of semiconductor components, Canon is currently facing supply issues for certain electronic components used in our multifunction printer (MFP) supplies. These components perform functions such as detecting the remaining toner level.

To ensure a continuous and reliable supply of consumables, we have chosen to supply them without the semiconductor component until normal supply is restored.

Although there is no negative impact on print quality when using consumables without electronic components, certain additional functions, such as toner level detection, may be affected.

With this Canon offers a solution that can last for months, or possibly longer, and opens the door for users to effectively use a third-party cartridge, usually much cheaper.

We will see what happens later and what decision they make, since with this the company is losing money and I don’t think they are very in agreement with that…
