Comparison of GeForce RTX 2060 Super vs RTX 2060

A major upgrade is only slightly more expensive.

The all-new Nvidia GeForce RTX Super graphics cards have finally arrived, starting with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super which will launch on July 9th. For the most part, these are supercharged versions of the graphics cards available today.

But are these super-powerful upgrades worth the price? If you haven’t bought the Nvidia Turing series graphics cards yet, then surely the new graphics cards in the Founders Edition cost the same as the graphics cards available before July 9th. If you already have an RTX graphics card, in particular the RTX 2060, then the offer is losing its luster.

However, this is the most readily available upgrade for your RTX 2060 that you can probably get for a long time to come, so keep things in mind when considering the specific differences between the new graphics card and the one it replaces.

| PRICES AND FEATURES

Nvidia wants to receive $ 399 (26,000 rubles + VAT) for the newly presented version of the GeForce RTX 2060 Super Founders Edition, replacing the previous version of the RTX 2060 Founders Edition. This change has led to a reduction in the cost of previous Founders Edition graphics cards to $ 349 (22500r + VAT).

For the same price as before, the RTX 2060 Super packs the same 12nm (nm) Turing GPU, but now with more video memory (VRAM), renderers (ROPs), texture units, RT- cores and clock frequencies.

More precisely, the RTX 2060 Super has 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM compared to the 6GB of the previous model. Similarly, the video card contains 64 ROP blocks from 48 blocks of the older model, 136 texture blocks from 120 of the original, and 34 RT cores against 30 cores of the previous video card.

Finally, the new graphics card has a base processor clock speed of 1470 MHz with a boost to 1650 MHz. Last year’s card offered a base clock of 1365 MHz with a limit of 1680 MHz – slightly faster than the new “Super” card. We assume this discrepancy is due to heat management issues.

GeForce RTX 2060 Super VS GeForce RTX 2060

| PERFORMANCE

At this stage of the comparison, we have not yet had the opportunity to fully test the RTX 2060 Super. However, we were able to use the graphics card to play some games with ray tracing, Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and high graphics settings at 1440p.

As part of this testing, we found the new Metro Exodus to play at 50-70 frames per second, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 60 to 70 frames per second. Going back to our 2018 RTX 2060 review, we saw an acceptable frame rate of 40 to 45 FPS with the same settings and resolutions.

Of course, some of the difference can be attributed to optimization patches released by the developers of these games since their release, but the performance has increased noticeably, which cannot be completely attributed to optimization.

| RTX 2060 SUPER VS RTX 2060 WHAT TO BUY?

If this is your first entry into Nvidia’s RTX series of graphics cards and you’re willing to spend over $ 20,000, it’s pretty simple – add some cash and upgrade to the RTX 2060 Super. Reasonable pricing, most likely following Nvidia’s vision.

The amount of extra performance and promise that you get with a little extra price tag cannot be overstated. If you’re on a budget but need ray tracing, opt for the RTX 2060, which is likely to get even cheaper with aftermarket support. Otherwise, save up a little and buy a new graphics card.
