Exclusively marketed in China, the Core i5-12490F processor was shown a few days ago, and now we are starting to learn more about its performance.
The Core i5-12490F is slightly above the Core i5-12400F in performance, as expected. The 12490F achieved 10% better results on single-threaded workloads and about 15% faster on multi-threaded workloads.
Importantly, the Core i5-12490F has a base frequency of 3.0 GHz and can boost up to 4.6 GHz. The Core i5-12400F has a base frequency of 2.5 GHz and can boost up to 4.4 GHz. As for the L3 cache, the Core i5-12490F and Core i5-12400F have, respectively, 20 MB and 18 MB.
The performance of the Core i5-12490F is also superior to that of the Core i5-12500, but with a smaller margin of difference. In single thread the result of the 12490F is approximately 2.5% better than that of the 12500, and in multithread it is 5% better. The Core i5-12500 CPU has the same base and boost clocks as the Core i5-12490F, but the L3 cache is smaller at 18MB.
The Core i5-12490F may remain restricted to the Chinese market, considering it wasn’t even introduced alongside other Intel devices during CES 2022 or other Alder Lake-S launches. Like the other Core i5 processors this generation, it should be a good choice for building mid-range PCs.
