Core i9-9990XE with another Intel HEDT chip

According to information disclosed by Anandtech, Intel is preparing a completely new chip for its HEDT family – Intel Core i9-9990XE. If the disclosed specification turns out to be true, this processor will offer the highest clocks of any Core-X.

The Intel Core i9-9990XE is expected to be the fifth 9th-generation Core-X model, so it will join the already crowded product line. It will be a specific replacement for the Core i9-9980XE available on the market, which offers 18 cores with a clock speed of 4.5 GHz in boost mode. However, the revealed i9-9990XE will go the other way and ditch the four cores in favor of a much higher clock. It will offer 14 cores and 28 threads with a base clock of 4 GHz (this is 1 GHz better than the mentioned i9-9980XE) and 5 GHz in boost mode.

So it will be intended for applications whose performance depends more on timing rather than thread count. Games are obviously one of them, so Intel will likely be targeting “the best processor for gamers.” This one is also supposed to offer native support for DDR4 memory clocked at 2666 MHz and 60 (44 available) PCIe 3.0 lines. As its TDP is supposed to be 255W, it is obviously not an option to combine it with a low-end motherboard.

In addition, the Intel Core i9-9990XE will also have to beat the 14-core Core i9-9940X, which costs almost $ 1,400. So we can only guess how high Intel will value its new acquisition. However, we are not sure whether it will be available for sale separately or only as part of “assemblies” from manufacturers.
