DDR5 memory prices fell more than 20 percent in the last month

We talk a lot about the prices of DDR5 memory in recent times, a product that was almost prohibitive for the average gamer and PC enthusiast.

But in recent months, what we all expected happened, DDR5 memory has become significantly cheaper since the beginning of the year. And now Computerbase found that prices in Germany for some kits fell by more than 20% in the last four weeks alone.

Some kits can be found for less than €5/GB, while in January those same kits cost more than €12/GB. This is good news for anyone planning to build a next generation Intel or AMD PC, as we remember that AMD’s new platform does not support DDR4 memory, only DDR5.

For platforms that support both memory standards, like Intel’s Alder Lake and the upcoming Raptor Lake, it still doesn’t make much sense to go for DDR5 if you’re on a budget. For less money, you can get a DDR4-3600 kit with significantly improved latencies and better performance in games and applications.

Prices also seem to be improving on the high end. A G.Skill DDR5-6400 kit with CL32-39-39-102 latencies can now be had for just €409, down from €699 earlier this year.

In the US we have a similar situation where basic DDR5 kits now cost around $6/GB. Hopefully this trend continues and we will soon reach the same prices as DDR4 sometime next year, as the experts predicted.
