Even more cameras in smartphones thanks to Samsung matrices

Jeszcze więcej aparatów w smartfonach dzięki matrycom Samsunga

Samsung has recently presented a pair of ultra-small high-resolution photosensitive matrices that are sure to come on board smartphones in 2019. These not only provide higher quality, but also allow manufacturers to add even more cameras.

New 0.8-micron sensors with 48-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GM1 chip and 32-megapixel ISPELL Bright GD1. Samsung says that even with a reduced amount of Mpx, the new sensors provide greater design flexibility. This translates into a greater number of smartphone cameras and a reduction in their size to ever thinner housings. Both matrices are also based on Samsung’s latest pixel isolation technology, which optimizes performance, especially for smaller pixels. The company claims that, even aside from Tetracell technologies, combining four pixels to increase sensitivity to light provides similar quality to a 1.6 micrometer sensor with 12 Mpx and 8 Mpx resolutions.

In addition, these sensors also support electronic image stabilization, and the GD1 boasts a real-time HDR mode for a more balanced exposure, richer color and detail even in low light. Both the GD1 and GM1 are expected to go into mass production in the fourth quarter of this year. In 2019, their debut in high-end smartphones seems likely … the only question is how many cameras are the manufacturers stuffing into these matrices.
