Firefox 97.0.1 fixes issues with TikTok and Hulu

Mozilla released Firefox 97.0.1 on the Stable channel on February 17, 2022. The new version of the open source web browser fixes issues affecting services like TikTok and Hulu.

Firefox 97.0.1 is now available and should automatically install on most user devices in the next few days. Firefox users who want the update at this time can run a manual update check to install it.

All that is needed for that is to select Menu > Help > About Firefox to do so. The page that opens displays the installed version and runs a search for updates. The update should be picked up at this point and installed automatically.

Firefox 97.0.1 is just a bug fix release. It does not add new features to the web browser or address security issues.

The official Release Notes list four issues that Mozilla has fixed in the new version:

  • Fixes an issue with the TikTok video service that prevented videos from playing on the service’s website if launched from a user profile. The new version addresses the issue that was a SHIP regression according to the Mozilla Bug List.
  • Fixes an issue that prevented Firefox’s Picture-in-Picture mode from working on Hulu. Picture-in-Picture moves videos from the current web page to an overlay that can be freely moved and remains visible even if the user does something else in the browser, for example, switches to other tabs.
  • Fixes a compatibility issue with the WebRoot SecureAnywhere antivirus security software, which “in some situations” caused Firefox to become unusable.
  • Fixes an issue that displays the Restore Session screen to users when they start Firefox unexpectedly. Restore Session is usually displayed after Firefox crashes.

Mozilla released Firefox 97.0 Stable on February 8, 2022. Firefox 97.0.1 is the first update to that version. The next version of Firefox, Firefox 98, is expected to be released on March 8, 2022.
