FLO DRIVE electric drive, the fruit of cooperation between Gogoro and Gates Carbon Drive

We’ve known for a long time that Gogoro has joined forces with Gates Carbon Drive. We also expected the fruit to grow out of this collaboration, and today we can find out what exactly the announced FLO DRIVE electric drive will offer.

What does the FLO DRIVE electric drive allow for?

Gogoro and Gates Carbon Drive are two completely different companies with different activities with a common goal. They both want to change the world of transport by accelerating the transition to zero-emission, sustainable alternatives.

While the former is developing its electric scooters with battery replacement points, the latter specializes in the production of special sprockets and associated carbon fiber belts to replace traditional chains. Together, they created the FLO DRIVE, a special electric driveline.

The FLO DRIVE first appeared on the Gogoro Viva Mix electric scooter, but it will not be limited to just that. In fact, this powertrain will be available to scooter and motorcycle companies through partnerships with Gogoro.

Going into detail, the FLO DRIVE consists of a water-cooled 6 kW or 8 hp engine that transfers torque to the rear wheel via a Gates carbon belt drive. By replacing the chain in favor of the belt, the drive is not only maintenance-free and more durable, but also offers higher responsiveness and a quieter ride.
