Fractal Design Lumen S28 RGB AiO in the test – more colorful, but also better?

It’s been a while since I saw Fractal Design with complete water cooling. I recently tested the Celsius + S36 Prisma, which did very well at the time. Now they are back with a completely new product range called “Lumen”, which, in addition to new fans, also brings the full RGB charge in the pump block. Packaging and scope of delivery

As far as the box is concerned, the familiar black and white design is retained. The front shows the AiO in colors, on the back and the sides there is information about the exact specifications and dimensions.

Inside, there is the usual sight of a bagged water cooling system with protection from a cardboard casing. The radiator is also put into a sleeve made of thin cardboard.

The accessories are quite manageable, in addition to the assembly material, there is only an adapter cable for the RGB lighting of the pump.

There is no additional tube of thermal paste here – unfortunately! I really can’t understand why manufacturers are now so stingy. A bit like premium smartphones without a charger.

Assembly and installation

The existing backplate of the AM4 mainboard is used again with this cooler. Before doing this, you briefly replace the bracket on the water cooling system, then you only need two eyelets and spring-loaded screws for attaching the coldplate.

These are then hooked into the hooks of the plastic brackets and tightened. Installation is as easy as usual and can be easily accomplished with “only” two hands. There is no longer a fan hub attached to the radiator, with this AiO one relies on a daisy chain for the fans and lighting.
