The method developed by a British company may replace the current, costly training of future doctors. The cost of a monthly subscription to the program ranges from $ 350 upwards. It requires a VR headset, laptop or computer to function, and two handheld controllers. While using the system, medical students can hear and see what is happening on the operating table. An additional advantage is the reproduction of the resistance generated when cutting skin, bones or muscles.

The authors of the project also implemented a system for assessing future doctors. After the operation is completed, the program will issue a note supported by information on the techniques used, the accuracy of the procedure and the impact on the virtual patient. Random, unexpected complications can happen during treatments, just like in real life. This will allow medicine adepts to be prepared for the most surprising circumstances.

Fundamental Surgery is certainly a great alternative to outdated (though still basic) teaching methods that are expensive and not always effective. In addition, the idea of ​​the British develops existing projects based on virtual reality technology. It is only a matter of time before you completely switch to practicing VR based surgery.
