Future graphics cards will possibly consume much more –

Actually we have graphics cards they consume up to 450w, and if you think that is outrageous, be prepared because future graphics cards will possibly consume much more.

It’s been a while since the next RTX 3090 Ti, This also talked about what it would consume 450W and that it would be the first graphic to carry this new connector, but you will ask yourself, what is this connector?

Well this is the new power connector PCIe Gen5 that thanks to its new design will be able to provide us with up to 16 carriles total “12 power lanes and 4 signal lanes“. And thanks to Igor’sLAB we can see appreciate much more information about this new power connector PCIe Gen5.

We can also appreciate how the specifications described by PCI-SIG tell us that each of the connector pins can offer us up to 9.2A. This translates to a total of 55.2 A on the 12V line, concluding with a MAX power of 662 W.

The use and function of the 4 signal lanes at the bottom of the connector is currently unknown.

If you look at it, this new design does not maintain the format we are used to called Molex MicroFit, but it is a 100% new format. Apparently this would be the new standard from next year 2022.

What can be seen in the image is that the space of the connectors will be somewhat smaller than the current ones, changing their size from 4.2 mm to 3.0 mm. In this way you will save in total physical space and at the same time offering more energy to the graphics.

Hopefully the next graphics cards do not consume a lot, because it would be a bad step regarding the overall efficiency of any computer. Now we will have to wait to know more information about this new connector.
