GeForce RTX 3050 in two versions with 4 and 8 GB of onboard memory?

GeForce RTX 3050 in two versions with 4 and 8 GB of onboard memory?

CES 2022 in Las Vegas is just around the corner, and more precisely on January 4th, when NVIDIA will hold a lecture in which he will unveil new GeForce RTX 3000 series desktop and laptop video cards. Especially in the desktop environment, the renewals of the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 Ti have been set aside for now at a later date, the attention should focus not only on the RTX 3090 Ti but also on the GeForce RTX 3050, the new gateway to the Ampere series.

According to the latest indiscretions, the GeForce RTX 3050 it might show up not in one but in two versions, characterized by different quantities of VRAM on board but not only. A model should be based on a GA106 GPU with 2560 CUDA cores flanked by 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, while the latter should have the same GPU with 2304 CUDA core and 4 GB of VRAM. In both cases the memory bus should be a 128 bit.

It is not clear why NVIDIA should opt for the GA106 when the GA107 used in notebooks just for the RTX 3050/3050 offers you up to 2560 CUDA cores and the same memory bus. If confirmed, the choice could relate to the shortage and yields perhaps not so exciting for the GA106. NVIDIA could guarantee on the one hand a good influx of GA107s to notebooks and at the same time recover some GA106s inadequate to end up on higher-end cards (the GPU offers up to 3840 CUDA cores) for the two new models.

The GeForce RTX 3050 should, as mentioned, be announced on January 4, 2022 and actually debut on January 27. It is not known if a Ti version will arrive in the future, also at the center of rumors in the past, or if both 3050s with different VRAM will be available immediately.
