GeForce RTX 4090, more than double the performance of the RTX 3080 in Overwatch 2

NVIDIA has published a new benchmark of the GeForce RTX 4090this time with the very fresh Overwatch 2. From the data it is possible to notice an increase in performance of 103.6% in pure rasterization – therefore without RTX or DLSS active – compared to the RTX 3080.

The game was tested at a resolution of 1440p with Ultra settings. The cards were paired with a processor Intel Core i9-12900K and, as stated, no technology has been applied for upscaling or real-time ray tracing.

The infographic shared by NVIDIA analyzes the performance of six video cards, including new models arriving and old acquaintances: RTX 3060, RTX 3070, RTX 3080, RTX 4080 12 GB, RTX 4080 16 GB e RTX 4090. The first fact to take into consideration is that the comparative has been excluded from the RTX 3080 Tithe RTX 3090 and the RTX 3090 Ti. The second, however, is that NVIDIA it does not indicate whether the RTX 3080 in question is paired with 10 or 12 GB.

From the test it emerges that the RTX 4090 scores a +103% in terms of frames per second compared to the RTX 3080, a result that goes beyond double. Compared to the immediately preceding range model, however, the RTX 4080 16 GBthe posting is of 37,7%.

From the evidence, however, other even more interesting factors emerge. First of all, the difference between the RTX 3080 and the RTX 4080 12 GB. The latter earns a modest +18% in the number of fps compared to the counterpart of the current generation. When compared, however, to the RTX 3070 the number rises to 51% which instead is configured as a remarkable result. From here it is natural to ask why to adopt the same numbering as the 16 GB older sister with which, in reality, it has very little in common (not even the GPU).

According to an analysis by Tom’s Hardware USAwhich examined i MSRP pricing shared by NVIDIA for the new series and the real ones (extrapolated from Newegg) for the current generation, the cost per frame between the new generation and the current one is very similar, equal to about 32 cents of dollar.

If from a certain point of view this data may be interesting, at the same time it seems a bit simplistic to limit ourselves to decreeing the value of a product from a single game or by comparing MSRP prices with current prices, which we know are highly discounted.

At the same time, an interesting cross-section remains, especially for those who are about to buy the video card in this period: choosing whether to buy the new generation or a top of the previous range could represent a great dilemma for many enthusiasts.
