BERLIN, Sep 28 – PRIME. Gas leaks from the Nord Streams do not pose a significant risk to the marine environment of the Baltic Sea, a spokesman for the German Ministry of the Environment told RIA Novosti.
“According to current information, leaks from the Nord Stream pipelines do not pose a significant risk to the marine environment of the Baltic Sea,” the official said.
According to him, this follows from the experience of work in the North Sea. “After drilling wells for the oil and gas industry, methane leaks also occurred there, after which no immediate consequences for the marine environment were proven,” the agency’s source explained.
At the same time, according to him, methane, which is the main component of natural gas, is much more harmful to the climate than CO2.
