Here are PCIe 5.0 SSDs. ADATA showed two prototypes

Project Nighthawk and Project Nightbird are not genetic bird modification programs at all, but disc prototypes. However, not just any, because ADATA revealed them as the first PCIe 5.0 SSDs that we can see in the picture, although Kioxia has already shown us something before.

Today we have just a taste of the news for you, because ADATA will try to reveal all the details at CES 2022 on January 5. In addition to the new DDR5 memory or gaming peripherals, the world will see prototype PCIe 5.0 SSDs in the form of Project Nighthawk and Project Nightbird.

These will use four PCIe 5.0 lanes and the NVMe 2.0 protocol for operation. From what is already known, they will provide up to 8 TB of capacity (this indicates the use of QLC bones) and up to 14 GB / s of sequential reading. However, 12 and 10 GB / s versions are also planned.

Manufacturers, however, can boast of their SSDs on PCIe 5.0 left and right, but at the moment it does not matter much to us. Reason? At the moment, no platform provides a M.2 connector for PCIe 5.0 connectivity, because even Intel’s new platform guarantees the fifth-generation PCIe x16 only for the main PCIe x16 slots. This means that while installing a PCIe 5.0 SSD is possible, it requires an appropriate adapter. These are not available yet, but MSI is said to provide us with one in the form of the M.2 Expander.
