How to insert short SSDs into new generation Xbox consoles?

The Chinese company Sintech has launched a special adapter that allows you to install selected M.2-2230 SSDs in the expansion slots of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S console. In other words, it is a solution that allows you to insert a short SSD into the next-generation Xbox consoles.

Thanks to this adapter, you can use specific SSDs for Xbox consoles

I am talking about the homemade CFexpress PA-CFEM2-C adapter for $ 29.99, which can accommodate an M.2-2230 NVMe SSD and be connected to the CFexpress interface of the Microsoft console. Of course not only that – it can also be used to create your own CFexpress Type-B card for use with professional digital SLR cameras and the corresponding card readers.

So it is an alternative to the only memory available on the market for Xbox Series X | S consoles, which are currently produced exclusively by Seagate, which makes them expensive. The original requires CFexpress 1.0 Type-B format to work and uses two PCIe 4.0 lanes, not PCIe 3.0 as in the official specs. This is where the uniqueness of this adapter lies, as it uses the CFExpress protocol, but supports the NVMe protocol.

However, the adapter has a serious limitation. While it can hold any short M.2-2230 drive with a PCIe interface, the new Xboxes themselves are only compatible with select SSDs with specific firmware and internal format. At the moment, it is not clear how many carriers meet these requirements, but the WD Blue CH SN530 is an example of this.
