Intel Adds $ 50 Million More to Combat Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Today Intel is making a commitment to add an additional $ 50 million in a technology initiative in response to the pandemic to combat coronavirus by accelerating access to technology at the point of patient care, increasing the speed of scientific research and guaranteeing access to online learning for students and teachers.

Within Intel’s effort, there is an additional innovation fund for applications where access to Intel’s expertise and resources can have an immediate impact. This is in addition to previous announcements of $ 10 million in donations that are supporting local communities during this critical time.

Intel will help manufacturers in the health and life sciences sector to increase the availability of the technology.

Approximately $ 40 million will fund Intel’s Response and Availability initiatives as well as Online Learning. Intel’s Response and Availability initiative vs. COVID-19 will provide funding to accelerate customer and partner advancements in vaccine diagnosis, treatment and development, leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing and the provision of edge-to-cloud services. Through the initiative, Intel will help manufacturers in the health and life sciences sector to increase the availability of the technology, solutions that hospitals use to diagnose and treat COVID-19. It will also support the creation of industry alliances that accelerate global capacity, skill and policy to respond to this and future pandemics, building on Intel’s own experience driving technological innovation in the health and life sciences sector.

The company has also assigned up to $ 10 million dollars for an innovation fund which supports requests from external partners and support projects led by our employees, serving the critical needs of their communities.

This technology response initiative builds on Intel’s previous announcements of $ 10 million in donations that are supporting local communities during this critical time. Those donations include 1 million gloves, masks and other equipment for health workers, $ 6 million from the Intel Foundation earmarked for relief efforts in local communities and $ 4 million dollars from Intel and its subsidiaries worldwide.
