Intel announces its 12th processors. Generation “Alder Lake”

Intel officially announced the 12th. Generation of Intel Core “Alder Lake” processors, marking the debut of its first hybrid architecture and its first platform with support for DDR5 and PCI-Express 5.0 memory.

This line is headed by the Intel Core i9-12900K, named by Intel as the fastest processor for gaming. With a maximum turbo of 5.2GHz and a total of 16 cores and 24 threads, Intel seeks to deliver the maximum performance in both single-core and multi-core for gamers and content creators.

The company today unveiled the first 6 processors in the 12th Intel Core line. Generation, although it ensures that the complete line will have more than 60 models available between desktops and laptops, with TDP ranges from 9W to 125W. These processors combine high-performance cores (Cores-P) with high-efficiency cores (Cores-E), which together with the new Thread Director present in Windows 11 will allow working with maximum energy efficiency at low loads and with maximum performance when running. use demanding multi-threaded applications.

Alder Lake processors will offer a total of 16 PCI-Express 5.0 lanes plus four PCI-E 4.0 lanes, and its memory controller will support DDR5 memory up to 4800MT / s or DDR4 up to 3200MT / s, so we will see motherboards with DDR5 and others with DDR4, offering different options to users.

In addition to the connectivity provided by the CPU, the Z690 chipset will provide 12 PCI-E 4.0 lanes, 16 PCI-E 3.0 lanes, 8 SATA 6Gb / s ports, and a wide range of options to connect USB, Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi , and more, having a wide range of connections.

As revealed by Intel, on average the Core i9-12900K will be 12% faster than the Ryzen 9 5950X in games when using an RTX 3090. In some cases the difference reaches 20 or even 30%, although in other cases it remains for below the red CPU or equals it, so it cannot be expected to always be superior.

Alder Lake-S processors and Z690 motherboards are already in pre-sale and will begin shipping on November 4. That day their reviews will also come out, so there we will really know what their performance is compared to the processors that are already on the market.
