Intel named the drive P4500 and its exact dimensions are 305 mm x 38 mm x 8 mm. It was created using 3D NAND memory – 64 layers of memory cells were stacked one on top of the other. The drives, of course, were not intended for use in home computers. It is doubtful that such people can afford the P4500. They will work great in servers, where a standard socket can fit 32 pieces, and in total they will consume only 10% of the power that a regular 1 PB server disk would consume.
However, they will work great with cloud services. Companies such as IBM, Microsoft or Tencent, which will be the first to start using disks in their data centers, have already become interested in them. Certainly, many more companies will soon join them, which will appreciate the possibilities of such a solution.
