Maersk showed its modern eco-friendly container ship

Huge container ships have been and will be one of the most important elements of the global industry in terms of logistics. Therefore, it is necessary to modernize them and increase their ecological potential. Maersk has done just that with the unveiling of its next-generation modern container ship.

A modern container ship from Maersk

This modern Maersk container ship will boast a capacity of 16,000 TEU, thanks to a new design and a length of 350 meters. Instead of burning oil, it will mainly use methanol obtained in an environmentally friendly way, but the company took care of dual-fuel engines that will also be able to burn conventional low-sulfur fuel.

It will be 20% more energy efficient per container than the industry average for ships of this size. No wonder – it has been designed to maximize the space for containers, thanks to which, among others, the crew accommodation and the bridge are located in the bow, the chimney only in the stern and one side of the ship, from which the living space will be separated.

In terms of ecology, the entire fleet will protect our environment from about one million tons of CO2 emissions per year, and it will be created in 2024, when Hyundai Heavy Industries will end its production. There are plans to produce as many as eight container ships (the aforementioned fleet) of this type.
