Navi 31, AMD’s next flagship GPU has passed the tape out phase?

AMD is working hard on the new graphics architectureRDNA 3 dedicated to gaming, in order to bring it to the market with a new series of video cards Radeon in the course of 2022. According to the well-known leakerGreymon55, the company led by Lisa Su would have successfully completed the tape out phase of the next flagship GPU Navi 31.

In August, the same leaker reported that AMD was on track to complete the tape out within a couple of months, and apparently everything would be fine. This is only one step, however important, in the process of arriving at a market-ready video card. According to Greymon55 himself, the first RDNA 3 GPU will arrive in the third quarter of 2022 but it will not be Navi 31, but Navi 33.

Navi 31 should be the first AMD GPU based on an MCM (Multi-Chip-Module) project, ie formed by multiple graphics chips on the same package. Among other things, rumors report that the project would provide for the farewell to the Compute Unit (CU) in favor of the WGP (Woork Group Processor).

The hypothetical configuration of Navi 31 shown above has 2 GCDs (Graphics Core Die) and a single MCD (Multi-Cache Die). Each GCD has 3 Shader Engines for a total of 6, and each Shader Engine integrates 2 Shader Arrays for a total of 12.

Each Shader Array composed, in turn, of 5 WGPs, each of which has 8 SIMD32 units with 32 ALUs, bringing the total of cores (now known as stream processors) to 7680 for GCD and therefore 15360 in total on the whole Navi 31 GPU.

The connection between the two GCDs should take place by means of an interconnection Infinity Fabric next generation and there would be 256-512 MB of Infinity Cache on board the GPU. Each GCD will then have 4 32-bit memory buses, bringing the interface to 256-bit VRAMs.
