North Korean hackers are stealing by power. They hold part of the regime

We know for a long time that North Korean hackers are responsible for a whole lot of cryptocurrency thefts. It is they, backed by the government of Kim Jong Un, who provide the regime with access to resources that allow it to continue the travesty of the rule of this militarily-minded state.

A whole 620 million dollars – that’s how much North Korean hackers stole in 2022

The FBI has confirmed the involvement of the North Korean Lazarus Group and APT38 in a cryptocurrency theft action totaling $ 600 million last month. This is a small “success” as in 2021 alone, these cybercriminals stole over $ 400 million, and the next they probably started with the biggest theft in the history of cryptocurrencies.

The attack was related to the Ronin network, which is used as a platform to host the game Axie Infinity. The network operates with nine validation nodes and requires at least five validator signatures to recognize a deposit or withdrawal. The attackers took control of five and faked payouts of approximately $ 620 million, which was confirmed in a press release from the FBI.

A US investigation has linked this spike to Lazarus and APT38 cyber hacker groups, which have been linked to other hacker attacks in the past. Both of these groups are supported by the North Korean state and reportedly number over 6,000 people. Worst of all, according to a United Nations report published earlier this year, the North Korean state is using stolen cryptocurrencies to finance its missile development program.
