Nvidia confirms the RTX 2060 12GB in its new Game Ready drivers 497.09 WHQL

After multiple rumors, Nvidia confirmed the existence of the new GeForce RTX 2060 12GB, albeit in an unconventional way: listing it in its new drivers before its full announcement.

In the update notes for their new Game Ready 479.09 WHQL drivers, Nvidia not only adds support for Chorus, Halo: Infinite, and the anticipated Icarus, which will feature RTXGI (Ray-Tracing Global Illumination) and DLSS support, but It also mentions “Added support for GeForce RTX 2060 12GB”, confirming the launch of this new graphics, which according to rumors would be announced on December 7th.

What do we know about this new graph?

According to the latest Videocardz rumors, the RTX 2060 12GB will not only double the VRAM versus the standard RTX 2060, but also increase the amount of Cuda Cores to 2176, the same amount as the RTX 2060 Super. Even having the same amount of Cuda Cores as the Super model, this RTX 2060 12GB will keep the same 192-bit bus of the RTX 2060, having a much lower bandwidth than the RTX 2060 Super that has a 256-bit bus, although it will have more VRAM, having 12GB compared to the 8GB of the RTX 2060 Super. The last difference will be in the TDP, which will rise to 184W compared to 175W for the 2060 Super and 160W for the standard 2060, allowing higher boost frequencies to be reached.

There are no details on the performance of this new card yet, and it really is anyone’s guess having such a great mix of specs and higher TDP. We estimate that the performance of the RTX 2060 Super will be around, although we will have to wait until December 7 to know exactly.

What do you think about this RTX 2060 12GB? Do you think its launch makes sense?
