Graphics card prices are expected to rise in 2018

In 2017, a number of reports were received that prices for computer components had increased and that this was a trend that looked set to continue. One of the areas where prices have risen the most is memories of various kinds, which in turn has affected, for example, graphics cards.

According to information to Digitimes, the prices of graphics cards will rise in 2018. This is because sales have increased a lot in recent years and in 2017 reached the highest level in five years. This, together with poor access to graphics card memory and circuits, means that prices will rise in the future, with expected increases of SEK 50-200.

The increased demand is partly due to the fact that cryptocurrency mining has become increasingly popular, but also the launch of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds. The game title has led many to choose to upgrade their graphics cards, especially in China which accounts for a large proportion of players.

The price increase is expected to have a marginal effect on sales when it comes to graphics cards for breaking cryptocurrencies. However, sales of graphics cards for gaming are expected to decline, while revenues are expected to increase due to higher prices.
