Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card in September and more!

Rumors promise RTX 3080 and RTX 3090.

New rumors have surfaced that Nvidia is preparing to launch its next-gen RTX 3000 series of graphics cards in September with the upcoming GeForce RTX 3080, along with the rather unexpected RTX 3090.

Rumors come from Igor’s Labrely on the release schedule, according to a post provided by a reliable source. According to the source, Nvidia will begin mass production of the graphics cards in August, and will be shown and published in the media in September 2020 (including the first official tests).

Based on the same schedule, Wccftech points out it seems likely that Nvidia will be able to showcase the graphics cards a little ahead of a public media event, perhaps at Gamescom 2020 – which will be digital-only this year.

| SURPRISE! SURPRISE! RTX 3090

Despite the fact that we expected the Nvidia RTX 3080 to be released around the same time, the new data is highlighted by the mention of the RTX 3090.

We’ve already heard of the new RTX 3090, but if Nvidia is going to actually release a graphics card with that name, it will still be a big surprise.

This is because Nvidia hasn’t released any # 90 chips since the GTX 690 launched back in 2012. Before that, the x90 GPU was a 2-chip graphics card – something the company hasn’t done since Titan Z (2014).

Instead, Nvidia’s flagship consumer graphics cards received a Ti prefix, like the RTX 2080 Ti. We initially rejected the RTX 3090 idea and assumed that previous rumors were either false or misinterpreted the RTX 3080 Ti model.

However, the ongoing rumors about the new RTX 3090 are thought provoking. What we don’t know is, given the existence of the RTX 3090, will the new graphics card be one step more powerful than the RTX 3080 Ti, or will it just replace the model?

Also, could the new RTX 3090 be another 2-chip GPU?

Nvidia’s return to the x90 name certainly seems like an odd decision that will only exacerbate consumer confusion.

Wccftech is forming an interesting theory about why Nvidia decided to revive the 90 model. With AMD and Intel launching 9 Series enthusiast products (Ryzen 9 and Core i9, respectively), can Nvidia adjust its products to match the trend?

If consumers start associating “9” products with high performance, enthusiasts, components, the return of the 90s graphics cards may be the explanation.

In any case, we won’t have to wait too long to find out if new rumors should be believed.
