With hardware priced out of the blue, many users have moved to consoles or streaming platforms such as GeForce NOW, which seems to have had to make some small adjustments to continue operating in an exceptional situation, and it is that Priority users, who pay 49.99 euros every 6 monthshave seen how the games they are not rendering at 1080p @ 60 FPS resolution.
This subscription costs just half of the subscription GeForce NOW RTX 3080, which, as its name suggests, guarantees us a rig with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, which already allows us to even stream play at 2K resolutions / 1440p @ 120 FPS and even 4K if an Nvidia Shield TV is used.
This information came to light on the Reddit forums, where a user named David contacted Nvidia believing that running Cyberpunk 2077 @ 1080p capped at 45 FPS was a bug, since in the game Guardians of the Galaxy, with the DLSS, even was not able to go above 50 FPS, to which Nvidia recognized that these 45 or 50 FPS were not a bug, but were actually capped at a lower frame rate.
A few days later, Nvidia published a detailed list of GeForce NOW games with limited frame rates. The company explains that certain games did not perform well at 60 FPS with the “Priority Rigs”, supposedly because are not able to sustain that frame rate. So instead of upgrading equipment or simply providing more performance for GeForce NOW users, Nvidia decided to artificially limit the frame rate in games, and even gave it a fancy name: “Optimal Settings for Gaming (OSP)“.
OSP can be overridden by users in most of the 1,100 games that GeForce NOW supports, but there are games that don’t allow for such extravagance.
“For our Priority members, the maximum rendered frames per second is generally set at 60, or more, for most of the 1,100+ games we’ve added so far.
There are some exceptions that we have determined do not perform well enough at 60 FPS on the GPUs used by Priority members. Therefore, you cannot override the default OPS for these specific graphics-intensive games. This is to ensure that all Priority members have a consistent, high-quality experience. However, we continue to stream these games at 60 FPS. “
Play | FPS Max con OPS |
Dauntless | 55 FPS |
Immortals Fenyx Rising | 48 FPS |
Cyberpunk 2077 | 45 FPS |
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey | 45 FPS |
Jurassic World Evolution | 50 FPS |
Dyson Sphere Program | 50 FPS |
Valheim | 50 FPS |
Path of Exile | 50 FPS |
Outriders | 55 FPS |
Kenshi | 50 FPS |
Biomutant | 50 FPS |
Dying Light | 50 FPS |
At the end of the day, it should be noted that the company has always offered its service stating “up to 1080p @ 60 FPS“So it is understood that in the best of cases, the games will run at that resolution and refresh rate. Basically if a user wants to guarantee 60 FPS, even at higher resolutions, they always have the option to access a more powerful rig to enjoy higher quality if your TV or monitor supports it.
1 year of GeForce NOW RTX 3080 costs 200 eurosWhile a GeForce RTX 3080 can be purchased at a price of around € 1,300, which translates into 6.5 years of streaming service.
