Nvidia RTX Studio: 10 Laptops for Creative Professionals!

Support for 30-bit color in OpenGL applications on GeForce GPUs.

Nvidia has announced a range of new laptops and mobile workstations as part of RTX Studio designed for creative professionals to deliver serious performance with ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and other computational-heavy tasks.

A total of 10 of these portable workstations were showcased at Siggraph 2019 in Los Angeles, with Nvidia RTX Studio laptops coming from every major laptop manufacturer (i.e. there are currently only 27 machines in the RTX Studio line, with eight of them currently presented).

10 new products will be based on consumer notebooks with RTX 2060 graphics cards and up to mobile workstations equipped with Quadro RTX 5000 graphics cards.

Nvidia has chosen a few specific models, including the Lenovo Legion Y740 Laptop Studio Edition, which will launch in 15-inch and 17-inch versions with GeForce RTX 2080 graphics cards this fall.

Lenovo ThinkPad P53 and P73 mobile workstations will be available earlier in August in the same sizes, but with support for graphics cards up to Quadro RTX 5000.

HP will offer the ZBook 15 and 17 mobile workstations, also with Quadro RTX, while the 17-inch version will allow customers to choose from up to the Quadro RTX 5000.

Dell will offer the Precision 7540 and Precision 7740 mobile workstations, which will again be configured with Quadro RTX 5000 graphics.

These laptops will come with Nvidia Studio Driver specially designed for stable and reliable performance, and they are also optimized for heavy software packages like Blender, Autodesk Arnold, Maxon Cinema 4D, Adobe Substance Painter and more. However, this version of the drivers lacks the latest game settings that are available in the more frequently updated Game Ready Drivers.

The key aspect here is that the latest version of Studio Driver now supports 30-bit color in OpenGL applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Premier on all GPUs, that is, not only on Quadro video cards, as it was before, but also on models GeForce.

As a result, GeForce-based notebooks can now handle media content in full color fidelity without suffering from the streaks that can be seen with 24-bit color.

This is a significant step forward and an important advantage for those who use GeForce graphics on their RTX Studio laptop, rather than switching to expensive Quadro solutions.
