Official GeForce RTX 3090 Ti: 2249 euros for the Ampere GPU without brakes

Official GeForce RTX 3090 Ti: 2249 euros for the Ampere GPU without brakes

There has been a lot of talk about it, especially since it has been postponed without explanation, but in the end NVIDIA has made it: the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is finally official. The new flagship of the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti family extracts everything possible from the Ampere architecture based on a GA102 fully active GPU in combination with even faster GDDR6X memoriesset to 21 Gbps.

This is an “upgrade” costing $ 500, given that the RTX 3090 Ti arrives on the US market with a list price of $ 1999 compared to the $ 1499 of the RTX 3090. Obviously we are talking about prices recommended by NVIDIA, the real ones. they will certainly reach higher values, at least in principle. The good thing, at least in theory, is that the RTX 3090 Ti could over time push the RTX 3090 on more affordable price lists.

Regarding Italy, NVIDIA has communicated a list of € 2249 compared to € 1649 for the RTX 3090 (+ € 600)both in the Founders Edition version (which will be there, albeit in limited quantities).

The net result of activating all 84 Streaming Multiprocessors is a number of 10752 CUDA cores capable of operating up to 1.86 GHzwell 160 MHz more than the RTX 3090. Next to the GPU we find 24 GB of GDDR6X memory made by Micron with a speed of 21 Gbps: There are 12 2GB chips on board the card and not 24 chips like in the original RTX 3090.

This technical improvement allows to contain (at least a little) consumption and allows both NVIDIA and partners not to have to prepare complicated solutions to cool the memory chips in the back of the card. Everything, this time, was placed on a single face of the PCB.

The higher specifications in terms of cores and frequencies, with the same production process, clearly have an impact on the required power which rises from 350W of the RTX 3090 to 450W. Partner projects will go even further, coming “dangerously” close to 500W.

In order to support this power demand, NVIDIA has upgraded both the power supply and the cooling system. The RTX 3090 Ti is the first ever board to be equipped with the 16-pin 12VHPWR connector, capable of carrying up to 600W. The board does not make full use of the capabilities of this new connector (i.e. it does not use the 4 signal pins), which means that the power output reaches a maximum of 450W.

As for the cooling system, although the Founders Edition’s heatsink is quite similar in appearance to that of the RTX 3090, the company has operated some modifications to the steam chamber (unfortunately not better specified) to improve its performance.

In terms of performance, NVIDIA claims that the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is on average 9% faster than the RTX 3090 in gaming, 64% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti and 52% faster than the TITAN RTX (Turing). Since it is a card also aimed at content creators, the company declares that in applications such as Blender, Maya or Cinema 4D the newcomer “it offers 42% to 102% more performance than the RTX 2080 Ti and the TITAN RTX “.
