OPPO announces the new SuperVOOC 150W fast charging technology. And that's just the beginning

In recent years, we have seen rapid development of fast charging technology. Not so long ago, smartphones offered us charging with a power of 5-18 W, and now in some models we can find even 120 W. But this is not the end, because producers such as OPPO, Xiaomi or realme aim even higher.

The battery capacity of smartphones has remained rather the same for a long time, but manufacturers are working hard to make the cells in their smartphones charge faster. Once a few hours were standard, now this time is getting shorter and faster, and the record belongs to Xiaomi HyperCharge, a technology that allows you to charge at 200 W. The battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh was charged in just 8 minutes. However, we are talking about a technology that has not yet been implemented into mass production. In the case of smartphones available on the market, it is 120 W for now, but soon, because models that support 150 W charging are to debut in the near future.

Today, during MWC 2022, OPPO talked about its SuperVOOC 150W fast charging technology

The technology itself is not a novelty, because it was already implemented in 2014 in OPPO Find 7 and since then the manufacturer has been gradually developing it. Currently, it is already 80 W, which we can find in OPPO Find X5 Pro. However, this is still not enough and today the 150W charging technology has been announced. According to the manufacturer’s words, only 5 minutes is enough to charge a 4500 mAh battery in 50%, and 15 minutes to reach 100% (these are, of course, laboratory conditions). The technology also features a Battery Health Engine (BHE) which ensures a long battery life. OPPO also ensures that thanks to the BHE, the capacity of the battery after 1600 charging cycles is reduced by only 20%, which is a really great result. It is also worth mentioning that the power supply itself will not be particularly large, because it should be of a similar size as the 65W adapters.

When is SuperVOOC 150 W for the first smartphone? Soon, in the second quarter of 2022. For now, we only know that it will be a model from OnePlus, but we have been stuck with the details.

However, we learned that OPPO is not going to stop there and is already working on a 240 W charge. Currently, this technology allows you to fully charge a 4500 mAh battery in just 9 minutes. So it is a better time than in the case of Xiaomi, although we will probably wait some time for the presentation and implementation into mass production.
