We hear more and more often about unique cells that charge faster and faster. The Amprius company added its three cents to this mixture, boasting about the impressive charging of the battery of its own production, which lasted only a few minutes. What exactly does Extreme Fast Charge allow for?

The characteristic charging time from 0 to 80% is given for a reason, and because the last 20% (up to 100%) usually takes longer and is not even recommended, because it negatively affects the overall life of the cells. Its decline is a reduction in the overall battery capacity, which is the biggest problem for electric vehicles. Amprius Technologies did not comment on the durability itself, but announced that the cells of lithium-ion batteries with a silicon anode achieved the breakthrough ability of fast charging 0-80%.

Most importantly, these are not only the words of the company, because the ability to charge extremely quickly has been verified and confirmed by Mobile Power Solutions for three sample cells with a capacity of 2.75 Ah. It is not enough to conquer the electric car market, but increasing the Ah for these cells is probably a matter of time. Especially since a Fortune 100 company is said to be interested in them, and the cells themselves also boast a high energy density of 370 Wh / kg.

In these tests, loading time to 80% took less than six minutes. Going into detail, the latest Aprius cells charge to 70% in less than 5 minutes and to 90% in more than eight minutes. Getting to 100% is much more time-consuming, as it takes up to 19 minutes from 90%, and 27 minutes from complete discharge.
