PCIe 5.0 graphics cards will have the new power connector

In the end it seems that it will be real and PCIe 5.0 graphics cards they will have the new power connector.

It’s been a while since the next RTX 3090 Ti, and this also talked about what he would consume 450W and that it would be the first graphic to carry this new connector, but you will ask yourself, what is this connector?

Well this is the new power connector PCIe Gen5 that thanks to its new design will be able to provide us with up to 16 carriles total “12 power lanes and 4 signal lanes“.

We can also see how the specifications described by PCI-SIG tell us that each of the connector pins can offer us up to 9.2A. this translates into a total of 55.2 A on the 12V line, concluding with a MAX power of 662 W.

The use and function of the 4 signal lanes at the bottom of the connector is currently unknown.

All this can be confirmed today thanks to ASUS, which confirmed the existence of this connector, by describing it in its new ROG Thor power supplies.

The PCI Express 5.0 standard includes a new high-capacity auxiliary connector that bundles 12 conductors into a single cable. To ensure compatibility with components that use this future connector, we will include one in the box of each ROG Thor source to make life easier for those who intend to use these sources of power in the long term.

If you look, this new design does not maintain the format we are used to called Molex MicroFit, but it is a 100% new format. Apparently this would be the new standard from next year 2022.

Hopefully the next graphics cards do not consume a lot, because it would be a misstep regarding the overall efficiency of any computer. Now we will have to wait to know more information about this new connector.
