Earlier this week, Phison demoed its flagship E26 PCIe Gen 5 controller for future SSDs on a motherboard with Chipset X670E junto a un CPU AMD Ryzen 7000.
While we expected speeds of over 14 GB/s for the business segment, PCIe Gen 5.0 SSDs for consumers will not be far behind in terms of read and write performance. In the demo, Phison tested what is called an engineering sample, which was a PCIe Gen 5.0 SSD with its E26 SSD controller and Micron’s new 3D TCL NAND flash memory.
The platform used for this demo had an X670E chipset motherboard with a prototype AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop CPU. In terms of performance, the demo resulted in up to 12.5 GB/s sequential read and 10 GB/s sequential write. These are blazing fast speeds compared to the 7-7.5 GB/s peak speeds on current PCIe Gen 4.0 SSDs.
Phison has already announced a collaboration with AMD to usher in the era of Gen 5 SSDs for the consumer segment.
The first SSDs with E26 technology are expected to be launched by the end of the year when AMD’s next-generation desktop platform hits the market.
