On March 6, 2020, starting from 10:30 am, the presentation event of the OPPO Find X2 range was staged. Held online because of concerns related to COVID-19, the event gave us several surprises, some of which were already rumored in the days before the announcement.
In fact, the Chinese company has unveiled to the general public the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro smartphones, two interesting top of the range. Furthermore, on the sidelines of the event, the next arrival of the OPPO Watch smartwatch was also revealed. We also got to give a close look at Find X2 Pro, the company's top of the range and the only one of the three devices that will arrive in Italy.
OPPO Find X2 Pro, the cutting edge
The smartphone on which OPPO focuses most is the Pro variant of Find X2, a device designed to meet the needs of the most demanding users. It is a flagship in all respects, since its design is accurate, the materials used for the construction are valuable and the technical characteristics are at the top of the price range. Starting from the components under the body, Find X2 Pro mounts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 octa-core processor, operating at the maximum frequency of 2.84 GHz, flanked by an Adreno 650 GPU, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 internal memory. We are talking about a configuration that does not fear the most expensive applications in terms of resources: the technical data sheet is exactly what is expected from a top of the range from the beginning of 2020.
Oppo has focused heavily on the screen, which is a 6.7-inch AMOLED with QHD + resolution (3168 x 1440 pixels), 120 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz sampling rate, HDR 10+ support and 1200 nits maximum brightness. In short, on paper the panel seems to be excellent and our first glance confirms this sensation. In any case, there will be a way to test it in multiple contexts over the next few weeks and therefore it is better not to get too unbalanced.
Moving on to the photographic department, we find a triple rear camera with a 48MP main sensor (f / 1.7, Sony IMX689), a 48MP ultra wide-angle lens (f / 2.2, Sony IMX586, 120 degrees) and a 13MP periscope lens (f /3.0, 10x hybrid zoom). Sony's IMX 689 sensor makes its debut on this phone and promises very well, we will test it thoroughly in the coming weeks. The front camera is 32MP (f / 2.4) instead. Pulling the strings of the speech, OPPO Find X2 Pro aims at the photographic level.
Even on autonomy, expectations are high, it is present a 4260 mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charge support, able to fully charge your smartphone in less than 40 minutes. At this point, we know what the most avid listeners are wondering: what version of the operating system is there?
Well, the Chinese company has pre-installed the ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10, which goes to solve several limitations of the previous versions. For all the details on the news introduced by this update, we refer you to the official OPPO website.
For the rest, the connectivity sector is exactly what is expected from a flagship, from support for 5G and Wi-Fi 6 up to the presence of NFC and USB Type-C port. The dimensions of OPPO Find X2 Pro are equal to 165.2 x 74.4 x 8.8 mm, for a weight of about 200 grams (200 grams for the Vegan Orange Leather variant and 208 grams for the Ceramic Black model). We now come to the topic that many of you are waiting for: price and availability. Well, Find X2 Pro will be sold at 1199 euros starting from May 8, 2020. There are still about two months to go before arriving in Italy, but in the meantime, those interested can register, starting from April 22 and by May 8. , on the official OPPO website. By carrying out this action and purchasing the Find X2 Pro in the period between 8 May and 30 June, you can take home the OPPO Bluetooth speaker and the OPPO Enco Free earphones for free. Proof of purchase must be uploaded by July 10, 2020.
OPPO Find X2, the "standard" variant
Alongside the more expensive model, OPPO has also announced the "standard" variant of Find X2, which is configured in a lower price range. Unfortunately it will not arrive in Italy, but you just need to know that in China it is sold at 5499 yuan (about 700 euros at the current exchange rate) for the 8 / 128GB model and 5999 yuan (about 765 euros) for the 8 / 256GB variant. There should also be an even more performing model from 12 / 256GB sold for 999 euros, but we reiterate that the "base" model of Find X2 will not land on the Italian market.
Consider that a possible arrival in Europe would have raised prices, so probably the difference in cost between the two models would actually have been even less marked than it may seem.
For the rest, the main differences with Find X2 Pro are to be found, as well as in RAM (which is also LPDDR4 here) and in internal memory, in the photographic sector (Find X2 has a three 48MP + 12MP + 13MP sensors) and in the battery (4200 mAh here). Going further, the specifications are very similar, and support for 5G remains.
OPPO Watch
On the sidelines of the event, with the publication of a page on its official Chinese website, the company has unveiled OPPO Watch, a smartwatch that for the moment has been announced only for the Chinese market. It is not expected to arrive in Europe, but you must know that it is sold at 1499 yuan (about 190 euros at the current exchange rate) in the 41mm strap variant and 1999 yuan (about 255 euros) in the 46mm strap.
The main technical features provide for one 1.91-inch AMOLED screen with 402 x 476 pixel resolution (in the 46mm variant, 1.6-inch display with 320 x 360 pixel resolution for the 41mm resolution), a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory and a 430 battery mAh (300 mAh for the 41mm model).
In terms of connectivity, we find support for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, NFC, eSIM 4G, Bluetooth 4.2 LE and GPS. The operating system is the ColorOS Watch and the weight varies from 29.7 grams to 45.5 grams without strap depending on the model (aluminum or stainless steel).
The smartwatch is also waterproof up to 5ATM and integrates the Breeno voice assistant. At the moment it is difficult to say if OPPO will decide to take the big step and bring its Watch also to Europe, but surely the solution for the Chinese market can be interesting for a certain type of user.
