Radeon RX 5300 XT and B550 chipset on an HP PC. What are you cooking?

HP has unveiled two new desktop PCs in Germany, the Pavilion TP01-0006ng and M01-F0017ng. So far the news would be uninteresting, but there are at least two details that catch the eye: the first is that these computers are based on a platform with a chipset called AMD B550, the second is that they integrate a video card named Radeon RX 5300 XT, which has never been heard of before.

In both cases, in the product specifications the B550 chipset is defined by HP as “AMD Promontory B550A”, and is alongside a Ryzen 3000 CPU, both with and without integrated graphics. According to rumors, the designer of the B550 would be ASMedia and not AMD as happened for the X570. ASMedia had previously worked on previous chipsets for Ryzen platforms.

The B550, unlike the X570, should not provide support for PCIe 4.0 in order to lower production costs. However, there is no certainty about it, and therefore it is possible that this support is adopted only for the first PCIe x16 slot and in the main M.2 slot.

German retailer Alternate has set availability for the Pavilion Desktop TP01-006ng and the Desktop M01-F0017ng for October 12th and 8th respectively. Consequently, the B550 chipset will also debut next month, at least on the OEM channel.

For those who prefer DIY assembly, perhaps a greater expectation is expected, with the arrival of new motherboards between October and November. Here too, however, we are in the field of hypotheses.

Very little is known about the Radeon RX 5300 XT, which according to HP will be accompanied by 4GB of GDDR5 memory. As reported in the past few hours, we know that AMD is working on graphics cards less powerful than the Radeon RX 5700, devoted to gaming in Full HD, but for now we do not know if this RX 5300 XT will also adopt Navi architecture. It cannot be excluded that this is a new rebrand of the Polaris GPUs, given the coupling with the GDDR5. All that remains is to wait.

Meantime the well-known leaker Komachi has found the passage of a solution called Radeon RX 5500 in BFXBench, precisely in the Manhattan test, where the card reached 87.6 fps, well below the 143.6 fps of an RX 5700 XT. The RX 5500 is expected to be based on a lower-end Navi GPU than Navi 10 (Navi 14/12?) And could compete with solutions such as the GTX 1660 and 1660 Ti.
