Razer says its laptops will be more expensive in 2022 due to shortages of components

While in the past notebook PCs were generally more expensive than desktop PCs, over the past two years the overpricing of desktop PC components made them a much more viable option, leading many to opt for a notebook PC at the same time. get them at manufacturers’ suggested prices, which is not the case for many desktop PC components such as graphics cards and some processors. However, according to the Razer CEO himself, these “low” prices became unsustainable, and we will see a sharp increase during 2022.

The information was revealed through your Twitter account, where Min-Liang Tan commented:

I just had a long meeting to review our lineup of gaming laptops for next year – it looks like there are significant increases in component costs and we will see price increases on the next generation of gaming laptops (including the Razer Blade) next year. .

According to Min-Liang Tan, the increases will affect the entire next generation of gaming laptops regardless of brand, so it will not only affect Razer but also companies such as Asus, Dell, Gigabyte, MSI, and the rest of the industry. . This is not too surprising when you consider that the prices of components from CPU chips and GPUs to copper foils for PCBs have recently increased, driving up manufacturing costs, which obviously leads to an increase in the cost of manufacturing. sale price.

Unfortunately, the CEO of Razer did not provide an estimate of how much this increase will be, so we do not know if it will be 5%, 10%, 20%, or even more. What we do know is that it is getting more and more complicated to buy hardware and that this situation will not improve until the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, so we will have to get used to it.

What do you think about this new increase in notebook PCs? Were you planning to buy one soon?
