REMUS 300 wins SUUV. Here is a small next-generation US Navy underwater drone

HII announced its latest success, which boils down to the US Navy selecting its REMUS 300 drone for the SUUV (Small UUV – Unmanned Underwater Vehicle) program. We now know that this next-generation US Navy small underwater drone will be produced and tested under this program within the next year.

The US Navy has chosen REMUS 300 in the SUUV program

The REMUS 300 submersible drone is designed to improve dispersed maritime operations by carrying out critical underwater missions. It combines advanced modularity and open architecture in a compact, human-portable design and has been improved accordingly over the years. It should be remembered that the older REMUS was already used in combat during the 2003 Iraq war, and so far HII has constantly improved and developed its successors.

As underwater drones have not been forgotten after the huge success of air drones, the American Navy wants to develop them with, among others SUUV (aka Lionfish), the next generation of Mk18 Mod 1 Swordfish, which also uses HII’s REMUS technology. The choice fell on REMUS 300 “after a two-year development of a rapid prototype, involving numerous user reviews and spiral development to improve the design.”
